How to Build a Clean 15 Superfood Salad for Everyday Detox

Following last week's Dirty Dozen blog, I wanted to give you something practical and delicious to help you stay on track with clean eating. This Superfood Salad highlights ingredients from the Clean 15 list, making it both nutrient-rich and lower in pesticide exposure.

This week, I've created a superfood salad to help you stick to the Clean 15 fruits and vegetables.  With the world becoming increasingly toxic, choosing vegetables and salads from the "Clean 15" list is key.  One cannot wholly avoid toxins, so it is essential to be wise and do our best. For the complete lists of the Dirty Dozen, see last week's blog.

Mindful Soaking

Don't forget that it's not about avoiding the Dirty Dozen, but rather being mindful of choosing organic options or being proactive to help reduce your toxic load by peeling or soaking.

Fill your sink with clean water, adding 1/4 cup of vinegar and 2 tablespoons of baking soda.  Soak your produce for 10-15 minutes before rinsing, drying, and storing it to help reduce the presence of pesticides, parasites, and bacteria.

The key is not to stress, but to stay proactive. Keeping your detox pathways open is essential, allowing your body to naturally eliminate toxins. Support this process with herbs like those found in our Liver Support Capsules.

Since all of us have been exposed from the womb, it is wise to do a course of herbs to bind to toxins and pesticides, such as in our Heavy Metal Detox capsules.  You can also take this one step further and do a thorough cleanse with our Detox Pack.

Do not stress, as this can cause other issues. So, do the best you can. Be cautious of the Dirty Dozen and opt for organic options whenever possible. Embrace the Clean 15 and eat a varied diet to nourish both your mind and body.

The Clean 15 List for 2025

  • Pineapple
  • Sweetcorn (fresh or frozen)
  • Avocados
  • Papaya
  • Onions
  • Sweet peas (frozen)
  • Asparagus
  • Cabbage
  • Watermelon
  • Cauliflower
  • Bananas
  • Mangoes
  • Carrots
  • Mushrooms
  • Kiwi

SUPER FOOD SALAD INGREDIENTS (Serves 2)

  • 2 cups of organic green leaves (rocket, romaine lettuce or organic spinach)

  • 1 cup raw grated cabbage

  • 1 cup raw grated carrots

  • ½ cup snow peas

  • 1 medium ripe avocado (cubed, sliced or mashed)

  • ½ Spanish red onion

  • 10 fresh asparagus spears

  • 2 tablespoons hemp seeds or flaxseeds

  • Garnish: mung beans, alfalfa sprouts or a fruity touch with sliced kiwi, mango or pineapple

TAHINI DRESSING

  • ¼ cup tahini

  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice

  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup or Dijon mustard (for a savoury version)

  • Pinch of sea salt

  • Water (to thin)

Assembly Instructions

  1. Mix all salad ingredients in a large bowl.

  2. In a small bowl, whisk together the tahini, lemon juice, maple syrup, mustard, and salt.

  3. Slowly add water, whisking until the dressing reaches a pourable consistency.

  4. Taste and adjust flavours as needed — more lemon for acidity, salt for seasoning, or maple syrup for sweetness.

  5. Pour the dressing over the salad and toss gently to coat. Top with seeds and your choice of garnish.

Although spinach appears on the Dirty Dozen list, I still include it occasionally, but only if it's locally grown, organic and unpackaged. If you’re unsure, swap for romaine or rocket to stay aligned with the Clean 15 approach.
